Otter Class Y1 & 2
Welcome to Year 1 and 2 in Otter Class
Welcome to the new school year in Otter Class!
We are excited to see you all back and ready for new adventures and learning here at our lovely school.
This year, we have a variety of exciting topics that will engage and excite our Otters, and we can't wait for them to share their learning with you. Our Otters are encouraged to learn more about their topics outside of school and if they learn anything new or fascinating that they would like to share with us, they are very welcome to bring this learning in on Fridays to share with the class. Please see below for further important information on our class. If there are any further questions that you have, please come and ask us!
Year 1 children may use Numbots and Year 2 Times Table Rockstars, to complement their learning in Maths. Here are the websites for your reference:
Their passwords are located in the front of their yellow reading records, along with a password for Collins Ebooks where they can access their school book online, if preferred.
We are excited and ready for our school year ahead and we thank you for your support in your child's learning.
Best wishes,
Mrs Norton
Staffing
Otter Class is taught by Mrs Norton and supported by Mrs Edwards, Mrs Clayden and Mrs Robertson. Miss Maisey will teach Otter Class on Thursdays each fortnight, providing statutory Planning, Preparation and Assessment time (PPA) cover for Mrs Norton.
Homework
Learning out of school is vital to developing successful learners. We want homework to be engaging and purposeful so that it consolidates the learning from the classroom. We also want it to be manageable as we appreciate how busy home life can be!
In Otter Class, the children are set the following homework:
Daily Reading
Children are encouraged to have a balance of quiet, independent reading and reading aloud, whereby they can practise reading with the appropriate expression and fluency. We encourage children to try out a range of genres and different authors. Please record any reading in the yellow reading record in your child’s book bag. Their school book will be changed weekly.
Maths and English
A Maths or English sheet (glued into their Home Learning book) will be given out every Friday. Children are expected to complete their home learning by the following Wednesday, ready for marking. The home learning will revisit the knowledge and skills learnt in class the week before.
If your child has any concerns around their homework, please encourage them to speak to Mrs Norton before the homework is due or please write a message in their Home Learning book.
PE Kit
There will be two sessions of PE per week; one indoor and one outdoor session. These are planned for Mondays and Fridays. As with last year, we are asking all children to wear their PE kit to school on their PE days. They will remain in their kit all day.
