Thursday Thunk

Dear Otters,

Our Thursday Thunk is:

Can you touch a reflection?

I can't wait to hear your thoughts in the comments below.

Love from,

Ms Lamble

Dear Sylvi, Very interesting thinking. I agree that you can't touch your reflection in a mirror because the mirrored surface is usually behind glass so the glass gets in the way. However, if the reflection is on the surface of the water, does that mean if you touch the surface of the water you also touch the reflection? Hmmmmm... This is why we say Thunks are questions that make your brain go, "Ouch!" :-) I would love the raspberry shortbread recipe, thank you. Love from, Ms Lamble P.S. I'm so glad you enjoyed the music activity, I'm looking forward to listening to the links you've left me.

Dear Leo, What about your reflection in water? Or in a window? Your Mobius strip activity sounds fun. How many sides and edges did you find? Love from, Ms Lamble

Hi. We think that you can't touch a reflection but you can touch where the reflection is on a mirror or in water or anywhere else you can see reflections. Love Sylvi xxx PS I will send the raspberry shortbread recipe to Mrs Fox for Mrs Joliffe, Would you like the recipe too? x

Hi again, we just did the music powerpoint with clockwork which was good and then my daddy showed us some songs that have been made by noises that came from lots of different computer parts working. It's really good. You can see it here (the final countdown song) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-X-p0C0Uas and there is also Ghostbusters https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0XhxUT9vWCg. The man who makes them is called Paweł Zadrożniak and his channel is called Floppotron because he uses lots of noises from computer floppy disc drives!

You can't touch your reflection in the mirror because if you wanted to look like you had touched it you'd just have to bend your arm and touch yourself and because if you wanted to touch your reflection in the mirror then you'd just be touching the mirror!

Hi Ms Lamble! I think you can't touch the reflection but the reflection can nearly touch you! I think the reflection has a thinner layer of glass between it and us, but for us looking on it is a thicker layer. Today, we have been testing how many sides and edges a Mobius loop (infinity symbol) has and we have been looking at the Afghan bands trick and art by Escher. We also made the holy trinity sign using paper loops. I hope I will see you soon. Love Leo

Dear Ms Lamble, I don't think you can touch a reflection because if you touch a mirror you can't actually touch the image. PS. I loved the collage activity today. I just did my collage and my imaginary world is called Edible World, where you can eat every single thing. There are edible trees, bushes, lakes, avocado boat and ships, cupcake houses, flowers and rainbows. With the rainbows, they will never back away from you and they are made of sugar dust that floats in the air. In Edible Land you are not allowed to eat the birds or the dragons. Lots of love from Freya xxxxxxxxxxxx
