Mini-beast Hunt

Dear Otters,

I hope you've had a restful and enjoyable half-term break. We have been so lucky to have so much sunshine! I'm very excited about our new topic, 'The Scented Garden', and about today's mini-beast hunt.

What mini-beasts (or bigger beasts!) did you find on your hunt?

Love from,

Ms Lamble

Dear Ms Lamble, What have you been doing during the half term? Have you done a bug hunt? I've done one and it was really fun. I found loads of wood lice. I think about 12. There were even some beneath stones and flowerpots! I saw two baby slugs, I didn't seen any ground beetles, but I saw a black beetle. I also saw two round worms, one spider and egg sack, one millipede, one centipede and a lot of ants. I also used BBC bitesize to learn about invertebrates. I didn't know before that snakes have a backbone! I hope I will see you soon. I really, really, really, miss you and Mrs Joliffe! Bye! Love, Leo

I've seen loads of ants under some bricks and I also found 11 woodlice, there might have been 12 but I wasn't completely sure. I have tadpoles and some have legs now, soon they are going to be turning green! love Lola :) :) :) :) :) :):)

Hi Ms Lamble, I had a great time looking for bugs and mini beasts and other animals today. I found 2 squirrels, 3 blue tits, 1 hover fly, 1 blood sucker beetle, about 40 lady bug larvae, 1 white spider, 1 red moth, 1 crane fly and 2 red robins. I didn't really find the squirrels - we accidentally trapped the squirrels in a magpie trap! The squirrels weren't too happy! xxxxLots of love from Freya PS. my duckling is a drake. We know that because he's got a tinge of green on his head and spots of green on his new body feathers too. It takes a few weeks to see if it's a boy or a girl, because all mallards look the same at first. xxxxxxx

Dear Ms Lamble, Everyday I like to do a mini beast hunt so I loved this challenge. Yesterday I caught a shiny blue beetle and a moth. I held them in a special container and loved looking at them, then I gave them to Sylvi. I also loved playing by the brook and looking at all the insects and animals by and in the water. I saw water beetles and a water boatmen and dragonflies. Love Alex

Dear Leo, I spent lots of time enjoying the sunshine in my garden over half-term, reading and drinking cups of tea. It was lovely! What did you get up to over half-term? We did a bug hunt in school yesterday but sadly didn't find many mini-beasts. Maybe we weren't looking in the best places. It sounds like your hunt was very successful, well done! I'm so glad you're doing such great learning at home. Mrs Jolliffe and I miss you very, very much and we hope we see you soon too. Love from, Ms Lamble

Dear Lola, Woodlice are so sweet, I think the way they scuttle about is so funny! It's so exciting that your tadpoles are turning into froglets - keep us posted about their progress please. Love from, Ms Lamble

Dear Freya, WOW! You did some very careful looking yesterday, well done. The blood sucker beetle sounds very interesting, do they really suck blood? I'm glad your duckling is doing well, it sounds like he's getting big! Thank you so much for the card you posted through the school letterbox, that was very thoughtful of you and a lovely treat for me. Your drawings and handwriting are fabulous. Love from, Ms Lamble

Dear Alex, I'm so glad you enjoyed the activity, I think our hunt might have been more successful if you'd been here to help us! Beetles can be very beautiful to look at with their iridescent shells. I once found a lovely green one that was gorgeous. What's your favourite mini-beast to look at? Love from, Ms Lamble
