Forest School Principle 3 - Forest School aims to promote the holistic development of all involved, fostering resilient, confident, independent and creative learners.

On Friday I asked the children at the end of our session what they felt they had achieved. Each one had a different answer but mostly it was because it was the first time they had tried a certain thing.

For me it was a pleasure to watch them work together in a mindfulness activity to scavenger hunt for items then create a ground picture or object - they made a person.

And then some of them used an axe to split wood then palm drills to make holes followed by adding string and decorating it for a sign. Most of them did it as a pair and shared their sign and the input for it. True perseverance was observed as it's not easy to use a palm drill or persevere with making a zip line that works. But they did.

Others used knives to make owls and mice, willow to make dreamcatchers, mud/paint/sand to make pies and tarps and paracord to make a shelter.

A real mixture of activity today finished off with apple slices toasted in cinnamon sugar which got a bit of a "I'm unsure about this!" reaction!
