We're going on a bug hunt

Hi Rabbit class,

Did you go on a bug hunt yesterday. We enjoyed our hunt and found wood louse, centipedes, lots of spiders, slugs, snails and ants. We have our own special container that we are going to make into a home for ants. We are going to have to find lots of ants and carefully catch some ants!!

We listened  to  the story 'We're going on a bear hunt' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gyI6ykDwds

and then 'We're going on a bug hunt' https://www.smackslide.com/slide/wex27re-going-on-a-bug-hunt-a8dtntWe hope to put some of our own bugs in the story. What would you choose to put in? Let us know on our blog.

Hello Mrs Proctor, we went on a bug hunt in our garden today, Loki helped us! We found lots of ants and under our strawberry trough the ants had made tunnels in the mud, a spider in its web, a green caterpillar in my bug hotel, tiny flies by the apple tree, a moth in my Wendy house, flies, a honeybee on our beetroot plants, aphids on daddy’s potato plants, an earwig, a couple of wood lice and 3 slugs - one was big and slimy! I can’t wait to hear about other people’s bug hunts. Love from, Anouk xxxxxxxxx

Hello We saw lots of woodlouse, bees and some ants, we tried to find ladybugs but couldn't find any. We found lots of greenfly on daddy's red currant leaves the ants were eating the greenfly. ( I also ate a few of the ripe red currants) It made me smile that woodlouse don't go to the toilet instead they make a smelly gas. From Charlie

Hi everyone I have been looking for the bugs with my magnifying pot and loved looking at the all the creatures I could find from my garden. I watched the woodlouse video and found it funny about the gas. Whilst exploring today a baby bird came and sat on my shoulder and kept hoping onto my finger and walked from hand to hand. I loved it and found it extremely funny, I named it chirpy. Love Indigo

Hi Anouk, What a lot of bugs you found, I like the fact that you have told us where you found them. I am glad I wasn't there when you found the big slimy slug because I am not very fond of them and they like eating lots of my plants! From Mrs Proctor

Hi Charlie, Well done for finding the part about wood louse that made us laugh at school. Can you imagine what our school would smell like if we all made so much smelly gas! I am thinking of growing some more fruit in my vegetable patch. I have never grown red currents before, are they easy to grow ? From Mrs Proctor

Hi Indigo, It was the gas part that made us laugh at school too. It sounds like you had fun on your bug hunt and with the baby bird that you found. What kind of bird was it? From Mrs Proctor
