Find or find out five of something new.

Good Morning Foxes!

How are you all today? Let's keep our brains moving  and inquisitive by finding or finding out five of something new.

For example, when you come back from being outside today, find out five new facts about a plant or animal that you noticed. Record/draw and label what you have seen and list the facts you find out.  Share what you have found out with an adult. Then perhaps focus on your favourite fact and explain why you find it interesting or surprising. You might find out five more interesting things about the artist that you are researching in your personal project and decide to record and share those. Whatever your five things are, we look forward to hearing about them during the course of today. Be busy and have fun!

3:45pm

We have just received this beautiful picture of a flowering plant from James. Thank you!

Hi Mrs L and Mrs B, You might remember that I have some pigeons outside my window, well the mum has laid some eggs so there will be baby chicks! The mum and dad swap sitting on the eggs. I looked on google and they sit on the eggs for 15- 20 days. Pigeons also mate for life! From Esme

Hi Esme, we certainly do remember your pigeons (that also kept you awake?). Do keep us posted about how the eggs/chicks get on. We didn't realise they mate for life - how loyal! Thanks for sharing your facts.

Hi Mrs L and Mrs B While we were out on our bike ride today we found two unusual plants one of them was called a torch Lilly and the other was a fox glove. A Torch Lilly have narrow glass like leaves and dense spikes of tubular flowers that bloom from early spring to autumn, they are great garden plants, grows up to height is 2m (7 ft) high, their water needs is just like a normal flower or plant, they will need deadheading at the end of the season. Foxglove has oval or lanceolate leaves (shaped like a lance head), they are thick green and woolly thanks to a dense layer of hair on the bottom side of the leaves, they contain toxic cardiac glycosides (that you shouldn’t touch them they could be highly toxic to your skin), It can cause stomachs pain and dizziness if it has had any contact with another human being or yourself, it can grow up to 6 feet, they can come in 5 different colours. On our bike ride we got really wet and muddy but we made it and we have now done 38.8km. I was thinking we could do 200km for the month of July because this month we haven’t been every day but if we did go everyday it would probably be like 40 something.

Helloo everyone, I have chosen crows because I saw one this morning. The 5 facts I have chosen are... 1. They live from 10 to 15 years old! 2. They are very intelligent and can use tools! 3. A group of crows is called a “murder”! 4. They eat almost everthing even human vomit 🤢 5. They can talk better than parrots My favourite fact is number 2 because they can solve problems. Best wishes, Johnny👦🏼

Wow James, that beautiful flower is a torch lily! Are these the 'red-hot pokers' that we also grow in our gardens we wonder? Thank you for finding out such interesting facts - especially how tall they can grow. Good luck with the cycling and take care,

Hi Johnny, crow are pretty amazing aren't they? We love the fact about them being able to talk even better than parrots. The human vomit fact is foul but funny and one of those interesting toe cringing facts that we all love! Thanks for sharing those facts with us.

Hi Esme, or should we say Aunty Esme now that you have two little pigeon squabs to keep an eye on? Oddly enough 'Spring Watch' on TV last night had a whole section on pigeons/doves. Quick fact share - We used to breed them for their chicks/squabs (sorry - but we did) in huge high-rise dove cots because they were a cheap source of meat for poor people. They also produce crop milk that they regurgitate (deliciously disgusting fact and a great word too) and feed to their young. It is one of the most nutritious foods in nature and why chicks grow phenomenally quickly from when they hatch. Have fun studying them as they develop and keep us posted.
